Double Circle Cabinet Knob, Solid Ash

£5.00

A cabinet knob built from two circles, one large and one small, 60 mm tall, cut from a single block of solid ash. Sold individually, in twelve finishes.

Nothing is carved into the face — it is left flat and only the edges are broken, so the outline does all the work and the grain runs uninterrupted across the whole knob. Mounted with the small circle at the bottom it reads as a shape standing on a foot; turned over, it reads as a bulb. At 44 mm wide it stays within a narrow drawer front while still giving a full grip.

In the box: one knob with the threaded metal insert already fitted, and one M4 × 30 mm screw.

Mounting
  1. Check that your door already has a mounting hole. If not, drill a 4 mm hole through the front.
  2. Pass the M4 × 30 mm screw through the hole from the back of the door.
  3. Thread the screw into the metal insert in the knob and tighten by hand, holding the knob upright with the small circle at the bottom.
  4. Finish with a quarter turn of a screwdriver — no more. Overtightening pulls the insert out of the wood.

The two circles give the eye a clear vertical line, so any tilt is obvious: set the knob before the screw grips, and keep the small circle facing the same way on every door in a run. If your door is thinner than 24 mm, the screw will stand proud inside the insert; that is normal and does not affect how the knob holds.

Materials & workshop

Wood: solid ash, single block. Hardware: threaded metal insert and M4 × 30 mm screw.

Eleven of the twelve finishes use ADLER Legno Dura-Öl, an Austrian oil-based finish. It leaves a matt, open-pored surface — the colour sits in the wood rather than on top of it, so a green knob still reads as ash and not as painted board — while resisting water and household chemicals the way a varnish would. The oil is certified to EN 71-3 for the migration of heavy metals, and to DIN 53160-1 and 53160-2 for saliva and perspiration resistance. The twelfth option, Unfinished, is bare sanded ash with no coating; it is the palest of the set and darkens with handling.

Cut, shaped, sanded and finished in our own workshop in Roman, Romania. With no carving on the face, this is the knob where the wood shows most: the grain crosses both circles in one run and there is nothing to distract from it, which also means every piece looks different from the next. The two inside corners where the circles meet are the fiddly part — they are sanded by hand so the transition stays crisp rather than filling in. If you are fitting a whole run, order them together and we will cut them from the same board where we can.

Care

Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. The oil finish resists water and household cleaners, so no special product is needed and none is recommended.

Unfinished knobs have no coating. On a flat face the marks of daily use show more evenly than on a carved one, and the wood darkens over time. If you would rather it did not, oil them yourself before fitting.
