A second lineup of animal cabinet knobs in solid ash: a panda, a French bulldog, a dolphin, an owl and a baby dragon. Buy them singly or take all five as a set.

Each one is a silhouette cut through the full 22 mm thickness — not a disc with a picture on it — so the dolphin's fin, the owl's ears and the dragon's tail are real edges you can feel. The detail is burned into the face rather than printed, which means it will not peel or wear off the way a transfer does.

Four real animals and one that is not: the dragon is there because every child's room needs one thing that could not possibly turn up at the zoo. Left bare — no stain, no oil, no lacquer.

Mounting
  1. Check that your door already has a mounting hole. If not, drill a 4 mm hole through the front.
  2. Pass the M4 × 30 mm screw through the hole from the back of the door.
  3. Thread the screw into the metal insert in the knob and tighten by hand, holding the character upright.
  4. Finish with a quarter turn of a screwdriver — no more. Overtightening pulls the insert out of the wood.

The dolphin is the one to watch: it leans, so it is easy to fit slightly off and hard to spot afterwards — line it up against the edge of the drawer rather than by eye. On a chest of drawers, decide whether all five face the same way or alternate; both look deliberate, mixing them does not. If your front is thinner than 24 mm, the screw will stand proud inside the insert; that is normal and does not affect how the knob holds.
Materials & workshop

Wood: solid ash, single block. Hardware: threaded metal insert and M4 × 30 mm screw.

No finish is applied. The wood is sanded and left bare — nothing is added to it and nothing sits on the surface. Unfinished ash is pale and open-pored; it takes marks more readily than an oiled knob would, and it darkens gradually where hands touch it. If you would rather it stayed pale, keep it dry and dust it rather than wiping it.

Cut, shaped, sanded and finished in our own workshop in Roman, Romania. The owl and the dragon are the slow ones: feathers and scales mean the engraving runs close to itself over most of the face, and each line has to hold its depth or the pattern goes patchy. Every narrow part — a fin, an ear tuft, a tail — is rounded over by hand so nothing is left sharp.
Care

Dust with a dry cloth or a soft brush. These knobs have no coating on them, so avoid water and household cleaners — bare ash marks where it gets wet and the mark stays.

The engraving on the owl and the dragon is the closest-packed of the ten animals we make, so use a soft brush rather than a cloth there. Expect the wood to darken slowly with handling.
