Animal cabinet knobs in solid ash, cut and engraved one at a time: a rabbit, a penguin, a meerkat, a pelican and a tiger cub. Buy them singly or take all five as a set.

Each one is a silhouette cut through the full 22 mm thickness — not a disc with a picture on it — so the ears, the beak and the tail are real edges you can feel. The detail is burned into the face rather than printed, which means it will not peel or wear off the way a transfer does, and it goes on a wardrobe, a chest of drawers or a toy cupboard without looking like it came from a catalogue.

Left bare: no stain, no oil, no lacquer. Ash is pale to begin with and warms slightly over the years with handling.

Mounting
  1. Check that your door already has a mounting hole. If not, drill a 4 mm hole through the front.
  2. Pass the M4 × 30 mm screw through the hole from the back of the door.
  3. Thread the screw into the metal insert in the knob and tighten by hand, holding the animal upright.
  4. Finish with a quarter turn of a screwdriver — no more. Overtightening pulls the insert out of the wood.

These are the only knobs we make where upright is obvious and wrong is unmistakable, so take the extra second before the screw grips. On a chest of drawers, decide whether the animals face the same way on every drawer or alternate — both look deliberate, mixing them does not. If your front is thinner than 24 mm, the screw will stand proud inside the insert; that is normal and does not affect how the knob holds.
Materials & workshop

Wood: solid ash, single block. Hardware: threaded metal insert and M4 × 30 mm screw.

No finish is applied. The wood is sanded and left bare — nothing is added to it and nothing sits on the surface. Unfinished ash is pale and open-pored; it takes marks more readily than an oiled knob would, and it darkens gradually where hands touch it. If you would rather it stayed pale, keep it dry and dust it rather than wiping it.

Cut, shaped, sanded and finished in our own workshop in Roman, Romania. Each animal is cut to its own outline through the full thickness of the block, which means the narrow parts — an ear, a beak, a tail — are worked by hand and rounded over so nothing is left sharp. The face detail is burned in, not printed: it is part of the wood rather than a layer on it, so it cannot lift or peel.
Care

Dust with a dry cloth or a soft brush. These knobs have no coating on them, so avoid water and household cleaners — bare ash marks where it gets wet and the mark stays.

The engraved lines are shallow; a soft brush clears them. Expect the wood to darken slowly with handling, most of all around the mounting point.
